Artist's Statement

Early in the morning of September 11, before I heard the horrendous news of the attack on the World Trade Towers, I had a dream of a rectangle with its upper left corner being blown out.

Later I created this personal flag image, "We Are Here," in response to my uneasiness with the nation wide display of patriotic flags. By creating my own flag, incorporating the dream image of September 11, combining tower and flag imagery, I felt that I was showing my own truth of this life-changing event. The star area in the upper left corner is a view of the universe and we are just a tiny dot in it; thus, "we are here."

Also, looking through dream journals of a year before in September 2000, I discovered the "Second Tower Dream" as I call it now. I cut out two towers from enlargements of the dream journal page and smeared them with ashes. Since the dream refers to impending danger in two towers, I take this dream to have been a premonition
