Artist's Statement
"I Am Who You Were"
In June 1999, I dreamed I was the
shaman of a South American village. Energetic, up-tempo music played
as I danced, barefoot, in the center of the village. At the climax of
the dance, I leapt through the fourth wall of the dream with strength
and grace, filled with the Dionysian joy of performing my rightful
dance. The image of the fellow in the center of this collage came into
my hands, from an unlikely source, at about the same time I had the
dream; he captures perfectly the oeneric energy.
"Meeting Caesar"
In March 1997, the third anniversary of
starting my business, I dreamed I met Julius Caesar three times in the
course of one dream. Dominating this triptych dream were images of the
ocean, horses, Roman warriors, and the powerful, magnetic Caesar. I
wove these images into the collage plus references to the struggle to
build my own empire and my need to "render unto Caesar that which
is Caesar's."
