Guide to Everything About Dreams Online

Richard Wilkerson

You may have thought from the title that this was going to be a long article, but in fact its a link portal to the different venues and resources for dreaming online.

History of the Dream Movement Online

If you are new to online dreaming and would like to read about the history and emergence of the dream movement online, please see The History of Dream Sharing in Cyberspace

I also recommend a few other sources for the history of dreaming online. The first is the ASD Cybersphile, a collection of essays published quarterly in the Dream Time magazine since 1995 tracking the development of the online dream movement.  The second main resource are back-issues of Electric Dreams. Since 1994, this online dream sharing community has put out a monthly ezine tracking all the latest developments in the Internet related to dreamwork and dream sharing.  Finally, be sure to read the research by John Herbert, Ph.D. comparing offline and online dreamwork.

ASD Articles Online

ASD has two publications that often release article online, the peer reviewed Dreaming Journal of the Association for the Study of Dreams, and Dream Time, a magazine of ASD.

Topics in Dreaming

There are several ways to find articles, groups, organizations and information about dreaming online.

1.  Using Search Engines to find information on Dreams and Dreaming.

There are two types of search portals, keyword searches and hierarchical searches. Some websites have search engines that search for keywords just on a particular site rather than the whole Internet. See for example the ASD Search Engine.   There a thousands of search engines online. Here is a guide to the Major Search Engines.

In general, use keywords that describe the area you are interested in. For example, if you are looking for information about research in lucid dreaming in Norway you can type into the search form:  lucid dreaming norway
Hint: Type all search entries in lower case so the engine will find all cases. Upper case forces the engine to just look for upper case.

2. Contact people who know.  E-mail experts and stop by the ASD Bulletin Board.  Join the Electric Dreams community and send in questions to the monthly e-zine. Also, many sites have active bulletin boards for topic discussion. See for example the Lucidity Institute's Bulletin Board System.

3. Use the ASD Links and Electric Dreams Links for specific topic links and resources.

4. Join Newgroups and Discussion Lists on dreams and dreaming. There are now dozens of groups, many can be found by searching at www.egroups.com. The Electric Dreams backissues also track new groups. See especially the following issues:

Electric Dreams March 1999, volume #6 issue #3
Electric Dreams April 2000, volume #7 issue #4
