International Conference on Dreams to Look at Evolution and Application of Dream Research

BERKELEY, Calif., May 27 (AScribe Newswire) -- How research on dreams has evolved over the years is one focus of the annual interdisciplinary conference of the International Association for the Study of Dreams (IASD) June 26-30 at the Wyndham Hotel in Chicago, Illinois. The theme of the conference is Earth Dreaming: 25 years of Carrying the Dream Forward.

With the traumatic effects of war in the news, and nightmares as a common expression of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Johanna King, Ph.D., a retired clinical psychologist, will present a paper on the progress made in the past 13 years on using dreams in the treatment of trauma.

Chris Olsen, M.A., will look at the history of lucid dreaming accounts and share his current dissertation research which challenges early concepts of this type of conscious dreaming. Robert Waggoner, and author of Lucid Dreaming: Gateway to the Inner Self, will look at the competing theories Jung and Freud had about the dream process and how dreamers are using lucid dreams to explore the validity of their ideas.

Patricia Garfield, Ph.D., world renowned dream expert, clinical psychologist and author of 10 books on dreams will share the highlights of 60 years of keeping a dream journal and how dreams supporting major life transitions.

Looking to the future, Olaf Gerlach-Hansen, current IASD President and Managing Consultant of Culture, Development and International Cooperation in Copenhagen, Denmark, will explore what an ecological age by 2050 may imply for dreams and dreaming.

Hot Off the Press sessions will cover cutting edge research in numerous areas. Other presentations will include research by Milton Kramer, M.D. on how dreams change as we age and a workshop on Tending the Dream is Tending the Earth by Stephen Aizenstaat, Ph.D. Dr. Aizenstaat is a clinical psychologist and founding president of Pacifica Graduate Institute. He will also be discussing the role of Dream Tending in the development of the Earth Charter, a project of the United Nations.

The IASD conference will provide more than 150 presentations, workshops and other events over a four-and-one-half-day period. The conference offers something for everyone - from ordinary dreamers to scholars, researchers and therapists. Participants may sign up for continuing education credits. IASD is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists, and IASD maintains responsibility for this program and its contents. IASD is also a CE provider for the BBSE California Board of  Behavioral Science Examiners.
