Hike on Mount Royal with Alan Siegel
Every year Alan Siegel takes us on an amazing hike, good for all levels, and Montreal 08 will be no exception. Join Alan for a hike up Mount Royal, the 502 acre park that sits right in the center of Montreal. It is where Montrealers bike and hike, hang by the lake and pedal boat. We picnic, walk forest paths, and look-out mountain-top views, just as you will do with Alan on our center-of-the-city protected mountain, designed by the same architect who created Central Park in New York City, Frederick Law Olmsted in an age where he was considered the most famous landscape architect in North America. Mount Royal Park was officially opened on Queen Victoria’s birthday, Wednesday, May 24, 1876.
In 1535, guided by the native inhabitants of Hochelaga, Jacques Cartier climbed the mountain and named it Mount Royal. Today a cross stands at the mountain’s summit marking Jacques Cartier’s climb.
Enter the park through the the lake entrance and climb all the way up to the Summit, where you will walk the circumference and along the way, see the cross, and the Chalet. Enjoy the look-out over the city, before you make your way back down the mountain toward the lake. (Hike time approx. one and a half hours.) Of course, you can choose to stroll Mount Royal at your leisure, and meet us at a pre-designated time and place to return to the hotel.
We will get to the mountain with pre-reserved taxis waiting for us at the hotel. Price for the hike is $15.00 US per person. Space limited to 36 people so sign up now!!
