If you’re trying to decide which airport to drive into, I recommend San Francisco over Oakland. It’s quite a pleasant drive. I recommend taking 280 North out of the airport (you will take the 380 connector to get to 280) rather than 101 North. 280 North goes through wooded area, over 19th Avenue in the City, which is timed with lights; and then through Golden Gate Park, over the Park Presidio, and onto the Golden Gate Bridge onto 101 North into Marin and Sonoma County. It’s a lovely drive. Download the University driving directions from the airports now.
In contrast, 101 North goes by the Bay but travels through industrial and urban grime, then goes over Van Ness in a busy urban neighborhood.
Oakland is a nice smaller airport, though if you arrive during rush hour, congestion on 80 is thick. Driving from Oakland, take 880 north towards downtown Oakland; then west580 / west 880 towards Sacramento. 880 is the north-south freeway that runs beside the Bay. Then take the right exit west 580 for the Richmond Bridge (comes upon you quickly in Berkeley). Drive over the Bridge ($4 toll); then follow the road off the bridge to 101 North. If you’re in LA (LAX) or Seattle, hands down take Horizon Air nonstop into Santa Rosa airport—it’s quick and a quick drive down 101 to the campus. Download the University driving directions from the airports now. Download the University driving directions from the airports now.
Driving Directions to Campus
Take 101 North in Marin (it’s the main north – south highway). About an hour north of the Golden Gate, take the W. Sierra Exit in Cotati. (Download the local map now.) Take a right off the exit, drive about 1 ½ or 2 miles through the town of Cotati, then Rohnert Park. At Bodway, take a left at the light into campus. Sauvignon Village where we’re being housed is directly in front of you when you come in this entrance. Take a right at the stop sign, and follow the road as it curves to the left. At the next bend in the road, directly ahead of you, is the Cooperage. Park in the next lot on your left. Come in to registration in the Cooperage Lobby. Download the campus map now.
Also just do MapQuest. The address is Sonoma State University, 1801 E. Cotati Ave., Rohnert Park CA 94928. And here it is on Googlemaps.
